Death of Denver Broncos wide receiver, a suicide




(CNN) - Denver Broncos coach Josh McDaniels boss talking to the press Tuesday about the death of wide receiver Kenny McKinley.

McKinley was found dead Monday afternoon in a house in Colorado. Authorities said it appears the young receiver range of a rifle shot and killed self-inflicted wound.

He was 23.

"Deputies have a man in the room on the second floor of the house and found that the male was deceased," Sheriff's Department Arapahoe County in a statement said. "Although the death of Mr. McKinley seems the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the investigation of this issue ... is in progress."

McKinley was elected by the Broncos in the fifth round (141st overall) in 2009 Entry in the NFL Draft at the University of South Carolina. He attended South Cobb High School in Austell, Georgia.

He played in eight games with Broncos as a rookie, but was placed on the injured list before the start of the 2010 season after a knee injury, according to the team.

"Everybody is shocked with the Broncos and saddened by the loss of Kenny McKinley, president and CEO Pat Bowlen Broncos said in a statement on the website for the Broncos." It was part of the Broncos family, and very missed by our organization . My deepest sympathy goes out to the family and friends of Kenny.

McKinley is at least the third since 2007 Bronco has died. Cornerback Darrent Williams, 24, was shot near downtown Denver, Colorado, January 1, 2007. Running back Damien Nash, aged 24, died after collapsing during a game of basketball Charitable later in the winter.

McDaniels, the Broncos coach, the deaths tragic.

"Kenny has a promising future on the soccer field, but more importantly he was a teammate with a smile and a great personality to the room light. This is a tragic loss for our football team, and his family in all our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time, "said McDaniels.
